Meet Jaspriya

My Story is a Ward 3 Story

My name is Jaspriya Johal. I am a neighbour, a mother, an entrepreneur, and a mentor who chose to build a life in Ward 3 because I believe in the spirit and potential of this community. For over 20 years, I have called this place home. I have raised my family here, built my career here, and shared in the same hopes and frustrations as my neighbours.

I know what it feels like to watch children cross busy streets that are not designed with their safety in mind. I have sat with seniors who wish they had more accessible spaces to stay active and connected. I have spoken with small business owners who work tirelessly but are weighed down by red tape and city inaction. These are not abstract issues to me. They are real, lived experiences that I carry with me every day.

I am not a career politician. I am running for City Council because I could no longer accept seeing Ward 3’s potential held back. Our community has been waiting too long for services that should have been here years ago. Families cannot afford another four years of waiting for schools, healthcare, transit, and safer neighbourhoods.

Why I’m Running

The Moment Everything Changed

My decision to run did not come from political ambition. It came from frustration that turned into determination. After attending yet another community meeting where the same problems were raised and left unresolved, I realized waiting for change was no longer an option. Ward 3 has been waiting for over a decade. Our families cannot wait any longer.

Ward 3 is at a turning point. We need leadership that listens, understands, and delivers. I am running to bring:

  • Fresh energy instead of political fatigue

  • Unwavering determination instead of empty promises

  • Clear vision instead of vague commitments

  • Real accountability instead of election-time appearances

My Background

Community, Connection, and Care

I come from a background in the arts, especially dance, which taught me discipline, creativity, and the importance of bringing people together.

My professional journey with Alberta Health Services has given me a first-hand view of the struggles families face, from affordability to access to essential services. As an entrepreneur, I know the challenges of building something from the ground up, and as a mentor, I have worked to guide and empower the next generation of leaders.

My Professional Experience

  • Career with Alberta Health Services, understanding families’ day-to-day struggles

  • Experience as an entrepreneur, building and sustaining a business

  • Serving as a mentor, helping youth and community leaders find their voice

  • Events Director at the Livingston Community Association, strengthening neighbourhood connections

  • Years of hands-on community service through clean-ups, fundraisers, and work with Guru Nanak Free Kitchen

  • A mother who understands the real concerns of families in Ward 3

What Sets Me Apart

  • I understand how recreation and community spaces are vital for mental and physical well-being

  • I bring creative problem-solving shaped by my background in the arts and business

  • I have no political debts and no special interests to serve

  • I answer only to Ward 3 residents

My Commitment to You

Not Just Promises, A Contract with Ward 3

I pledge to be the most accessible and accountable councillor Ward 3 has ever had:

Quarterly Town Hall Meetings – not just during elections, but every 90 days
Public Vote Explanations – clear and transparent explanations for every major decision at City Hall
Direct Accessibility – I will answer your calls, respond to your emails, and listen to your concerns
Community-First Decisions – my only responsibility is to serve Ward 3 residents
Transparent Budgeting – I will push for city spending to be open and easy to understand

For me, this has never been about political ambition. It is about the parents working hard to make ends meet, the children who deserve safe streets, the seniors who need services close to home, and the small businesses that are the heart of our community. Ward 3 deserves leadership that delivers on these priorities, and I am ready to be that voice.
